Cancion® System

The Cancion System is an innovative treatment that improves cardiac performance by utilizing Orqis Medical’s continuous aortic flow augmentation (CAFA) technology. Use of the Cancion System leverages conventional percutaneous technique to gain bi-femoral peripheral vascular access. When activated, the Cancion System pump draws blood from the patient’s iliac artery into a small external pump and directs it through a catheter positioned in the descending aorta where blood is re-introduced for continuous, non-pulsatile, aortic blood flow augmentation throughout the cardiac cycle. After treatment, the pump is turned off and catheters are removed, leaving no implant in the patient.
Published findings of the Cancion System feasibility study (Circulation. 2005; 112:3107-3114) demonstrated that use of the Cancion System created significant improvements in hemodynamics and beneficial trends in renal function in patients. The physiological benefits observed in the study, including positive changes in vascular, renal and cardiac indicators generally are realized within 24 hours of treatment initiation.
The Cancion System was evaluated in the MOMENTUM Clinical Trial at 40 leading heart failure centers throughout the United States. Results from the MOMENTUM Clinical Trial will be presented by Barry Greenberg, M.D., National Principal Investigator for the MOMENTUM Trial, during the Late Breaking Clinical Trials session at the 2008 annual American College of Cardiology (ACC) meeting in Chicago.
The Cancion System is commercially available in select markets outside the United States.
